Vegas, the write up

So we got back from Vegas last night and I have to say, it was a fun trip.

We arrive in the mid afternoon on Friday, it was a sunny 85 and not really a shock to our Washington acclimated 60's. I was a little surprised that it was not more of blow. We did nto check any bags so we headed right out of the airport and took a shuttle to the hotel, checked in, and headed up to our room on 17. The room was nice and with a Batman Forever theme including one of the bat-a-rang props from the film and some movie posters and a prop from one of the TV stands for Edward Nigma's TV beaming device. It also had a pretty awesome high walled bathtub so I know that Ria was thrilled. After checking in we met up with my buddies to say hi, grabbed some yummy food at Yolos in the hotel and started to walk the strip with David acting as a tour guide for a bit before we headed to the Rio for the world series of poker and down to the old strip and hung out and played some games. Ria found some old slot machines that actually used real money so she was happy.

Saturday saw more of the same. Plenty of walking around and enjoying the sights and sounds of Vegas down the other end of the strip and visited the MGM to see the lions, marvel at the Luxor, and walk what seemed like an endless hotel at the Monterey Bay, plus some other stops. Ria and I along with my 2 friends went and saw Cirque's Mystere at the Treasure Island. I do have to say that some of the items were impressive, but Cirque is just not my thing. After the show Ria and I broke off form the guys and headed to a Brazilian BBQ joint and I have to say that the roast beef was amazing. I could have eaten a whole cut of that if they would have left it. The rest of the meats really did hold up to it all. After that met back up with guys and did a couple of things and said good-bye as they were leaving in the morning.

Sunday Ria and I decided that we would walk out to a gun range... about 4 miles out. We were really enjoying the walking time of the weekend even though our feet were telling us not to do much more of it, and it was still 85, and there were no clouds, and we are bleach white... Anyway it was a dumb move that we survived after grabbing a bus at about the 3 mile mark. Got to the shop, paid way too much money, but enjoyed firing some guns at full auto... I have to say for us people that did not do military service and enjoy firearms it is something that you must do once. Bussed it back to the strip and met a very nice local gentleman at the bus stop who we chatted with while waiting and until he got off the bus. Ria got a little burned on the back of her neck and my sunscreen held up, but my feet were toast with like 4 blisters after the experience. Once back at the hotel Ria took a nap to recover from the sun and I read a little to relax and keep my feet up. After that back out to the strip so that we could see get some pictures of the Bellagio water show at night (we had caught it twice or three times during the day), the Mirage volcano, and the pirate battle at the Treasure Island. The pirates were packed so we only got to see most of it. We had a great spot for the Volcano and ended up with an awesome spot for the water show by shear accidental timing on a overpass. I think Ria got to see almost everything she wanted to, except for missing the white tigers at the Mirage. At this point my feet were doomed. We ended up enjoying the hotel buffet for lunch and dinner.

Sunday was sort of a shopping day while killing time waiting for the flight home which was a few hours later than I thought it was. We also played some more slots and just sort of decompressed. We ended up heading to airport a little early as we were done with the noise and cigarette smoke and ready to head home. Found out the airline had moved us into separate seats so it was good that we got there early as we were able to fix that and get in to an exit row. On Alaska I tend to have enough leg room as is, but it was nice to be able to stretch my legs and flex my toes. With all the walking counted up we are thinking we might have hit 20 miles so a little extra space was nice. Got back into Seattle a little after 8 and headed right to the car and out to dinner at Outback. It was Ria's birthday and that is where she wanted to go. No arguments here as they really do have the best dinner salads and we were both craving one.

After that it was finally home to very happy puppy.

All and all a great trip full of fun and great times, I think that next time we will plan on better feet protection and better daily time planning.

fun, vegas, vacation
