Wow. Tom Cruise is such an asshole. I mean, no doubt he's crazy and weird, but he's a jerk too. Have you heard about how he attacked Brook Shields for treating her post-partum depression with Paxil? I mean, women have killed themselves (and their children) because of untreated post-partum depression. It's an absolutely medically recognized ( Read more... )

Yeah, but did you hear her response?

Shields delivers Cruise bruisin': Brooke Shields is lashing back at Tom Cruise after the actor lit into her for taking Paxil to combat the crippling postpartum depression that gripped her following the birth of her daughter, Rowan. Not only did Shields call Cruise's Scientology-inspired anti-drug comments "irresponsible" and "dangerous," she also told People magazine that Cruise should "stick to saving the world from aliens." But then she made a peace offering -- well, sort of. "If he wants to see [the musical] "Chicago" [in which she's starring in London], I've left him two tickets -- one adult, one child": a swipe at Cruise's girlfriend Katie Holmes' being 16 years his junior, of course. Holmes, by the way, is now reportedly showing up to press interviews surrounded by "an entourage of Scientologists," including Cruise's sister/publicist, Lee Anne DeVette. Good for her. If I were her, I would be pretty fucking pissed. And she's like a good foot taller than him, so she could kick his ass.

Sidenote: As an athiest, I'm sure you find most religions a little wacky. But don't you think Scientology is especially wacky?

I don't necessarily consider myself an atheist (more like agnostic with atheistic tendencies), but I really consider most religions to be equally wacky. I mean, what's the difference between believing in some all-knowing, all-powerful being in the sky and believing in meditation-like stuff to cure illnesses?

I certainly wouldn't say it's the wackiest thing out there, but it ranks right up there. And all-knowing, all-powerful being in the sky may be a little out there, but it's kind of like one of those, "Could be...I guess you never know..." But Scientology seems to rest on completely ignoring actual science. And it was founded by a science fiction writer. And they think you should be totally silent when giving birth so you don't scar the baby. And after all that crap, they make you pay to be part of it! I think it wouldn't freak me out so much if so many high profile people weren't taken in by it. If there were just a few Scientologists somewhere, quietly getting "audited," I probably wouldn't care at all...

just keep telling yourself, "L. Ron Hubbard wrote Battlefield Earth, his followers are a little suspect."

you should make yourself available for my birthday weekend [which is actually the weekend before my actual birthday] ... drinks, bad bands with skinny white boys with dreds and Touche'z are on the menu

When is it? Making it to Sioux Falls is always a little sketchy, but I won't rule it out. Couldn't you just come to Verm, where the bars are easy to get to and cheap?

June 17th, 18th and 19th.
The problem is that I'll have like three or four friends who live in Sioux Falls and one coming to town especially for my birthday and none of us live in Verm anymore.
I'll have to do some more planning, but going to Verm is negotiable.

Yeah, I mean, if he personally didn't use prescriptions and didn't want to put his kids on ADD meds, I wouldn't care at all. It's his public judgement of someone whose situation he doesn't know anything about that I have the problem with. He's not in Brooke's situation and to my knowledge, he hasn't even spoken with her about it. But he still thinks it's okay to go on national TV and talk shit about her.
