Tyler's Adventures Part 20

“I say we just go.” Chelsea said with a sigh, “I’m going to state the obvious here: Tuck is dead. So there really is no use in looking for him.”
“Tuck is not dead.” Tyler retorted, “We don’t know that.”
“We also have no clue if he’s even alive either.” Chelsea said brushing some dust off her cape, “So either way we’re wasting time looking for him.”
Tyler stared at the ground and sighed heavily, “You’re right.” He admitted glumly.
“Why thank you.” Chelsea said evidently very proud of herself.
Tyler glanced at the bowling pin child who stared up at him with worry.
Tyler looked back at the village and was about to turn and leave when he caught sight of a little boy running through the streets.
The little boy couldn’t have been older than ten.
He had red scraggily hair that peeked out from underneath a trashcan lid that he had tied onto his head. He wore a baggy grey sweatshirt and baggy blue jeans that were underneath a series of trashcan and Tupperware lids. His boots were too big for him and were obviously covered in aluminum foil.
In his arms he carried a primitive looking crossbow and a pitchfork.
“Child!” Chelsea called out.
But the boy kept running.
“Halt!” Chelsea called again, “I command you!”
Again, the boy continued to run.
“You!” she screamed, running after the boy at full speed.
She caught him by the shoulders and threw him to the ground.
Tyler quickly ran over to Chelsea and the boy with the bowling pin child hopping behind.
“You!” Chelsea shouted into the boy’s face, “You who ignore the commands of the god of the Undead?”
“I’m sorry miss!” the boy said, “But I must return! The village people need me!”
“Why would they need a useless piece of…?”
“Chelsea.” Tyler interrupted quickly throwing her a sharp look.
Chelsea stood up and crossed her arms defiantly.
Tyler looked down at the boy and asked, “Why do they need you?”
“The war has almost begun!” The boy replied, getting to his feet, “Every man, woman, and child is needed to do battle.”
Tyler was shocked by this explanation and he looked over at Chelsea to find her staring at her nails indifferently.
Tyler then looked back at the boy and said, “What enemy are you facing?”
The boy shuddered, “Monsters, sir. They are ferocious monsters with fangs and green eyes that lull you to your death.”
“But why do they fight you?” Tyler asked.
“Ever since we humans began to build homes near their groves they’ve been bitter towards us.” The boy explained dramatically, “They’ll stop at nothing to see us in ruin. Every year we defeat them, yet, every year they return stronger and in larger numbers.”
“That’s horrible.” Tyler said.
“Will you help us?” the boy asked, staring up at Tyler with pleading eyes.
Tyler looked back at Chelsea and asked, “What do you think?”
Chelsea nodded, “I love battles.” She smiled insanely, “Death, blood, and all that other warm and fuzzy stuff.”
Tyler raised his eye brow and then nodded to the boy, “We’ll help you.” He said.
The boy clapped his hands and hurried to pick up his crossbow and pitchfork, “There will be weapons for you at the mound.”
“The mound?” Tyler asked.
“Yes, our base.” The boy explained, “Follow me quickly please.”
