Today I read the article "Back from the Brink" and I think this article is interesting. And I write about my opinion to this article.
The writer narrate about...
Shige Yukio who spend time after retirement for helping people who have lost all hope and try to commit suicide.
After I read, there were question happened immediately in my head
" Why Japanese people often commit suicide?"
There are many place in Japan that people like to come to commit suicide. Because of being Japanese dramas fan and many dramas I like to watch it is about officer life or detective police or something like that so I can imagine how they live in this big city.
I think the reason they often suicide is stress. They are stress with their works and I think Japanese society is so strict. People work very hard and honest to their organization. I know from watching dramas. There are many factors that can lead them to stress such as co-worker, kind of works, high rate of competition. As we know, Japanese people are very patient and discipline. Salary men will put on suit and walk quickly on the road. Many people are workaholic and do not have time to talk and take care their family. They accumulate their stress and they may confuse and can't find the way to solve their problems. Finally they decide to commit suicide.
In my opinion, This strict habit may derive from their ancestry. I've ever read about samurai era. They are warior if they do something wrong like kill innocent people they must do Harakiri or seppuku. It is committing suicide by using knife sharpen their abdomen and cut their intestine until died. Samurai do Harakiri for retaining their honor.
I think some points like Japanese people in present. When they do something wrong they will blame themselves and try to show their responsibility.
Among stressful society encouragement from someone is very important. I agree with shige's statement that he declares in the article...
"These people were waiting for someone to tell them that they do not have to die. Nobody want to die."
Helping people who lost their hope by provide support to them is a good way to reduce suicide rate. Shige just say "Hello" to them and that is beginning to relieve their problems.
Some word can change someone life forever.
I really like Shige's effort to help people willingly although they are not his relatives or his friends. This article make me realize that living with encouragement make us feel warm.
Once we born on the earth, we should spend time worthily.
