Every now and then I realise I am old, and not in the normal ways like having graduated, having a job, having a pension, having a hairline worse than my dad's. This way is somewhat better and somewhat worse.

It is how 'kids' talk to you.

Yesterday I was through in Renton (lovey wee toon - sic) to help my dad, who is the pipe major of Johnstone Juvenile, as they were entered in the quartert piping. They had 2 teams in. So there were a few points were my dad was not about, competing with the other quartet so I was in charge.

It was the way they spoke to me, they genuinely wanted and needed my advice and input on what was going on and were asking me what to do. That may sound trivial but I have never really been in that situation were I was practically in-charge of a group younger than me, who actually seemed to respect that I hold a lot more knowledge on the particular subject than them. And I did enjoy it, and will probably be lending a hand through-out the actual pipe band season.

In saying that, I am older but I am finding these days I can do some stuff that I couldn't do about 8 years ago. And this was proven today as I took up....jogging! Aye even I would fall off my seat reading that but as my general health and fitness has gotten better I have been noticing I am more capable of doing things I haven't done before. I noticed my ability to run and not be instantly shattered about a month ago, sprinting for a train home.

I walk and cycle but running in any form was something I was wary of because of my knee. Was sitting watching Run Fatboy Run last week and remembered the Linz asked me a while back in I fancied jogging. I was put right in the mood watching the film so texted her saying I would, basically meaning I had to! Got a pair of running trainers on Thursday so invested money in to it also so more motivation to do it.

This morning, I ran the murdie dams without stopping. The wee one, the big one, the wee one then half the wee one again. 1.332 miles in 12mins23secs. Basically the Notre Dame cross country route with a half added on. In high school I could barely do any of that without stoping/starting so I feel I achieved something this morning by doing that and hope to keep it going and improve my times and distance as the better weather comes in.
