Cute. I think any aged puerh should be taken with massive grains of salt. I have yet to see any claimed "10 years" puerh to be actually 10 years old in Beijing, whereas, funny enough, the brick I bought recently is not highly recommended as aged, but nevertheless is quite aged. Re-pressed loose sheng puerh, apparently (from research on Sanzui)

"One thing that I really like about the purple bud cake is that drinking water some 3-4 hours later and after eating a meal, I still taste it at the back of my mouth and down my throat." That's a good thing!!! Is that the one that you took a picture of (with the nasty looking orange/red wrapper)? That's a purple tips.

That's the one! It is a hideously ugly wrapper.

What made an impression on me was the striking red color of the buds in the cake, so I say bud in the post where I should say tips. Purple bud = all purple. Purple tips = varietal that tends to be purple on the tip of the leaf, but not always, right?

It's not easy being a tea-buying foreigner in China...I know. Thanks for sharing, my friend! Mmmm, I miss eating REAL Sichuan and Hunan food. Every sichuan and hunan food I've had here (in the US) is, well, crap!

Take care and stay out of trouble. I look forward to reading your next posts.

I'm going to apoplogize in advance since I'm going to go completely off topic...

I was looking for a review you did ofTong Qing 2004 100 Year Old Tree Raw Beeng but I could not find it (an http 404). Do you remember if it was good and whether it was worth buying? I'm trying to expand my pu-erh horizons, and would like to hear what you thought about it.

Sorry about that. I moved it to Jiu Wan (which is the factory that produces the Tong Qing label now. Though I've heard claims that other producers use the Tong Qing label, I haven't seen any in China yet.)
