A Hasty Proposition (Suikoden I, Flik/Odessa)

And then I switch from poking Jowy Atreides with all the sticks to Flik and Odessa being awkwardorable. I think this one is basically spoiler-free, too! Unless “Flik and Odessa are my precious precious babies” is a spoiler, which I don’t think it is.

(Leaving a comment here because I don't have an AO3 account and don't like commenting anonymously, but may I say girl you should have known he was a virgin was the BEST tag) Yes, so, my erudite and thoughtful response to this is basically a high-pitched squeal of utter glee. This was delightful on basically every possible level (except for the part when Odessa mentioned knowing she could trust Sanchez and I was momentarily blinded by rage, but I was honestly expecting so much more dramatic irony from you two, like more on the level of, "You know what the best part of this is? How no one in this room is ever going to be tragically murdered! Isn't that the best? Hahaha," so). Also, this totally makes me want to have Silverberg fic with Leon and Mathiu and Odessa and baby Albert and I digress.

Erm. So basically Odessa is the best ever, but you knew that, and she really is a strange Silverberg because she's so down to earth about everything, there are no mental contortions or mind games or cryptic statements or naval-gazing episodes, she just sits down in her room in her cave and gets shit done. And there's a really nice balance in her attitude towards her fellow members between I wish I could give you more than this and Okay, guys, this is how it needs to be. And Viktor is the greatest life-ruiner and Flik running around screaming I GAVE HER MY SWORD is just amazing in every possible way.

Also, Puel, I know you're not Mith, but when I read this I noticed Mith had been stealth-posting Suikofic to AO3, and I thought, "Oh my goodness! New Gizel/Sialeeds written by Mith! I'm just going to--AUGH AUGH WHY WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT AUGH," so, um, between the two of you, congrats on hitting the full range of feels in two fics and 45 minutes. I am excited for Jowy's consistently terrible life choices (Jillia!), but I want to have time to sit down with it without rushing, so I will check it out then.

You do realize that Mith and I now have to use that line in a future fic, right? :D But I'm glad this delighted you! And I kind of want to write all the growing-up-Silverberg fic in the world, because I'm pretty sure that neither Leon nor Mathiu have the slightest idea what to do with Odessa. She runs around outside. And climbs trees. And comes home covered in mud, when she actually gets around to coming home. (At some point, I think Leon decides that Odessa will come home when Odessa feels like coming home, and giving the matter any more thought than that just makes his head hurt.)

I love Odessa so damn much, and the balance she strikes between idealism and practicality is a big part of why. She's wholeheartedly dedicated to her cause, but she's realistic about what she and her forces can accomplish and picks and chooses her battles. (Unfortunately, Flik never quite picked up that last part from her.) Granted, I'm not sure her expectations of herself are always as realistic because I can't help but see her as a bit of a workaholic, but hey. Writing Flik at this stage is fun, too, because dude spends the first half of the game being Odessa's clingy jealous boyfriend, and it's cool to explore what his more appealing qualities were back then. And his passion and idealism are so cuuuute.

Thanks so much for reading--I always love hearing your feedback! And I am sure Mith is pleased to have provoked a Y U DO THIS with that Gizel/Sialeeds.
