Puck doesn't tell the other three boys why, exactly, they need to meet at the coffee shop at a precise time. He just tells them to be there no later than 3:45, and he'll explain everything then. That gives them at least ten minutes before Kurt and the douchebag show up.
"What're we doing here?" Sam asks, dropping into the booth that's almost hidden from the rest of the store. "And why are we sitting all the way back here?"
"This has something to do with Kurt, doesn't it?" Finn interjects. "And that assembly on Wednesday."
Puck nods, and the other three boys wince before their faces harden. "What're we doing here, then?" Mike asks.
Puck tilts his head towards the door. "Four o'clock, they should be here. Somewhat public place. We're the back-up."
"He is breaking up with him, right?" Finn's face reflects both anger and guilt.
"Yes."
They sit in silence, half-heartedly drinking their coffee, as first Blaine and then Kurt enter the shop. The two sit down at a table far enough away from the other four that Blaine won't spot the McKinley students, but close enough that Puck and the others can overhear the conversation.
Kurt doesn't wait long before getting down to his point. "Blaine, I think we should stop seeing each other."
Puck can hear Blaine chuckle. "Very funny, Kurt."
"I'm serious. I'm breaking up with you."
"You don't mean that." Puck winces at the tone that invades Blaine's voice. "I need you, Kurt, and you know you need me. Think about how unhappy you were before we started dating."
"I was unhappy at Dalton! I've been happy because I'm back with my friends."
"Oh, we both know that's not true," Blaine says, and Puck can practically hear the condescending smile he's sure that the boy has on his face. There's a low murmur, and Puck can't quite make out the words, but he knows it's Blaine, and he hears Kurt's chair move backwards, fast.
"No. I'm not going to let you try to guilt me into changing my mind. I meant what I said," Kurt insists, but Puck can hear his voice growing shaky. "We're… we're over." Puck can hear Kurt rising to his feet and picking up his drink.
There's another scrape of a chair, and then a startled exclamation. "Let go of me. Stop! You're hurting me!"
Before the sentence is finished, Puck and Finn are both on their feet, Sam and Mike at their heels.
"Let go of him," Puck growls as he takes in the scene, and Finn throws an arm around Kurt's shoulder. Puck reaches for Blaine's hand, but the shorter boy releases Kurt's wrist as he takes in the four surrounding him. "That's it," Puck says, menacing smile on his face. He feints a little towards the blazer-wearing boy, and growls "Fuck off!"
There's silence for a few moments, Kurt breathing heavily, and then Finn's pulling him towards the booth the others were originally sitting in. They wedge Kurt between Puck and Finn, and under the table, Puck puts his hand lightly on top of Kurt's knee.
"You OK?" Finn finally breaks the silence.
"Not really," Kurt admits sadly.
"You will be," Puck states. "You won't be today, and maybe not tomorrow, but you will be."
On Monday, Puck stops at Ms. Pillsbury's office at the beginning of second period. "That was a good assembly you did last week. You should do it every year." He shrugs. "But, look, guys get abused, too. Even the gay ones. Make sure you include that in the presentation next time."
Ohhh very well done! I really love what you've done with this and the last few. You are very mature with the subject, and make it seem very real. I especially liked Puck's last words to Ms. Pillsbury.
That was done wonderfully. You handled it very well. I really liked the last bit where Puck told Ms. Pillsbury to include the fact that it happens to guys as well.
