Everyone who owns a house will give you shit about how renting is a complete waste of money, it's not an investment, yadda yadda. But honestly, in our day and age it's the only way to go for people our age. Dan and I could probably afford a house with how much we're making but honestly, I don't want all of that responsibility when it's only the 2 of us. The only other thing I'd do right now is get a condo, because you have a little more room and flexibility, but having an apartment is just fine.
Like I said, it's just you and Matt, there's no need for a house just yet. I'm fine with living in an apartment as long as I don't have a real family going. Big whoop.
Where have you been looking for places? $900 for a 2BR including ultilities is good but you can definitely do better. I don't know about you but I can't handle an apartment that looks like a hospital, I hate that. Utilities really aren't nearly as expensive as you might think. My apartment is $600 plus water. Our electric, at most, is $40 bucks and our gas (don't get an apartment with base board heating!!!) in the summer is like $20-30 but the winter can get up to $100. But that only because Dan's retarded and has to have the heat on full blast 24/7. If you're like me and can handle wearing a sweatshirt and cuddling up in a blanket instead of blasting your heat it'll stay low. So as you can see utilities really are do-able. The most expensive things are cable (because of cable and internet) and obviously your groceries. But between the two of you it shouldn't be too bad. With Dan working it's really a breeze. You'll obviously want to save coupons and all that but it's worth it.
OH! And you don't want to forget about that things I totally forgot to remember when I moved out, remember car insurance and gas. Just right out a budget and plan. It'll all be a lot easier when you have a full time job.
And tell his mom to fuck off. Simple as that. Move out and get a gold fish.
oh ya that apartment was just something matt found we arent sold on it by any means and of course i would look around anyways i know it wasn't the best but it was to prove the point that apartment would be better. Thanks for all the tips hun i know we could survive with an apartment i was just more annoyed that she actually thinks she can have a say in what we are going to do with our lives moving wise...so stupid haha this is why i love you because you just get me :)
