Haven't really updated in a while. Felt it was time, you know. That, and I'm at work, which means I'm very bored.
So I only have 11 more days of my job. THANK GOD!! And my boss
isn't here for the next 7 of those days. WOOHOO! This means I don't have to work hard. Yes, I'm a crap employee, but damnit, if my job wasn't so lame and boring, I'd be a good employee. Besides, he thinks I'm awesome, so its all good.
I have just 25 days till I leave for England. WOOHOO! At least I can take entertainment on board with me. (Thank the Good Lord.)
Speaking of England, I don't think I am getting a NIPS scholarship. I'm on the reserve list, and then got an email today about a US Friends of Newcastle Scholarship (or something like that). Its $2000 so I'll apply, but, I'd much rather have $5000 in scholarships rather than just $2000. Oh well, free money is free money and I never look a gift-horse in the mouth.
Have also been in contact with the most awesome woman in all of England: the music secretary at Newcastle. Because of new British restrictions, I can't take my violin unless I want to check it (Why is it that the only country with this restriction is the one I am going to??? Irrefutable proof that I am Satan's Barbie Doll). So I emailed her asking if Newcastle has instruments they loan out. She doesn't know of any, but both she and a colleague of hers are searching for a violin for me to rent/borrow/whatever. Even if they can't come up with anything, its still awesome that she's going out of her way for me. I can take my violin, check it as extra baggage for about $100, but I'm so scared of it getting broken, and $1800 doesn't buy you what it did 12 years ago. My violin may not be the best (I believe my freshman violin teacher called it a "piece of crap"...course she also told me to buy one that cost, at minimum, $20,000) but I love it, and it's mine.
Kinda went a little bit crazy yesterday at Best Buy. Went in for Memoirs of a Geisha (its only like $4 cheaper used) and came out with Memoirs, Red Eye, and In Her Shoes, the latter of which is REALLY quite good. I love Toni Collette. (Random thought: Colette was my name in my first 2 years of French class -- not sure why, don't particularly like it. I changed it to Carine for the last 2.) Anyway, when I brought home Memoirs, my brother was like "You're not gonna like it -- its made by Asians." (He didn't know I've seen it.) Hey! Just because I haven't liked Asian movies in the past. Ong Bak was kinda cool. And I LIKE Memoirs. But yah, for the most part, I don't like Asian movies.)
I've read the first four Harry Potter's in as many days; well, half way through the 4th -- I'd only read like 30 pages before I came to work, ha. I TOLD you I was a bad employee. My brother has been harrassing me for a couple years. And I feel like I'd be denied entry to England without having read these, haha. That and I have a million other books lined up to read. Fun times.
Went up to visit my Seattle- and Tacoma-ite friends last weekend. It was a lot of fun.
I love Chopstix. I have to find an awesome place like that in England. Some place with hot, hot bartender/bouncers and jello shots. Now why I know why my mom married a bartender/bouncer... there's just something about them, haha. Course, that Bartender-bouncer is my DAD, but she says he was hot way back when, so I'll take her word on it....haha.
Found out Stargate Sg-1, my favorite show, is getting cancelled. Sad. Oh well. Am going to be out of the country anyways.
