It seems like every other person on LJ is listening to Franz Ferdinand these days. Of which I wholly approve, ever since falling in love with them a few months ago. It's weird, though, because they sound like an 80s band I missed out on while growing up in the great pop-cultural blackhole of 5305 Brookeway Drive, and so I forget that they're in ( Read more... )

With all the mass media out there, it doesn't seem like any band is obscure anymore. Especially since everyone and their grandma puts their bands on myspace!

"Do You Want To" by FF has been running through my head for the past week. You're so lucky! Lucky lucky lucky!

Sometimes you forget that these bands really aren't that popular, outside of the internet twenty-something crowds. Even Franz Ferdinand, who is probably one of the biggest, and actually has a second album out, only had one popular single from their first album. Most people would just be like "huh?" if you mentioned them.

You go through a few rounds of this, and then you end up at a place where you think The Fiery Furnaces are getting way too popular, and it's just hopeless.

That's the thing with me - I don't catch the bands when they first hit it big. I catch them later, hence my confusing FF for an 80s band. That enables me to miss out on the overinflated hype, which is good, because said hype usually makes me want to vomit.

I guess I still have a dream of championing a really obscure struggling band.

The last obscure band to become my favorite (and still is) just announced they was breaking up (#@$@#$*&!), and their final show in NYC was at HARD ROCK CAFE of all places, and sold out in like 5 minutes. So much for that.

I though FF only had one album, you know, from back in the 80s. I gotta check out the new one.

...I now have the song "Ossining" by Mike Doughty in my head. Yes, a song about Ossining.

Hi, by the way. Good to see you.

Dude, we just went on a HIKE starting in OSSINING. Martin didn't let me hear the end of it.

And. I am totally obsessed with Soul Coughing and frequently get his songs stuck in my head. I'll have to check that one out.

Good to see you too. :)
