Shanghai: Week 2: Tu

Working at the law firm is really stressful for me.

The commute, although not particularly difficult, simply pisses me off. It's a 10 minute walk from the hotel to the bus stop, sounds close but not really. (Don't forget about the awful weather.) From there, I get on a public bus with all these other sweaty, smelly fools. And I'm talking about smelly, like pass-out smelly. 25 min of being angry on the bus ride, and then a 5 min walk from bus to work.

At the law firm, my supervisor usually comes in after I do. That' s all nice and whatever, but our room is not part of the main office, so there is no A/C. And if my supervisor isn't here yet, I wouldn't turn on the fan that sits behind his desk b/c that's kind of awk. So I sit there browsing the Internet, with no A/C. Being in a really hot environment makes me sleepy and angry at the same time.

On top of that, the assignments lawyer man gives me are way beyond my capabilities. I cannot read legal jargon in Chinese, nevermind simplified Chinese. So far he's asks me to type up reports to give to the judge and re-arrange all the documents/evidence for a closed case. But both of which require a knowledge of the law--of which I have none. Awesome. I'd much rather he ask me to translate, or... I don't know, some other office-type assignment...

< There is a lady in the office speaking in Shanghainese right now, and she sounds ridic, like she rolled out of a Thai horror film. >

I am now procrastinating on my work because I don't know how to do it.

On another note, while watching NYC Prep last night, we agreed that our study abroad program group of people (called "the family") would make a really good TV show. There's always something going on, people get locked out accidently, language barriers that are really funny, and generally a good time. I'd watch us, haha. It's always a good time on the thrid floor of NanYing Hotel; I'm pretty sure the hotel staff secretly hates us because we're so loud and walk around from one room to the next and cause a ruckus on the third floor.
