I was the substitute for a middle school math lab today. I have a couple comments that really need to be made.
1) I really hate it when I'm called in to sub for a class that has two teachers in it. Today, I was subbing for the school's employee. However, the class also regularly has a teacher that works for an outside contractor. In my experience, the only thing dumber than a computer teacher is a computer teacher working for a contractor. After talking to this woman for all of ten minutes, I started mentally (and in text messages to Andre) referring to her as "the dingbat." And this one was a heck of a lot brighter than the ones I've dealt with in the past. *sigh*
2) The concept of a math lab makes me very very sad. I got a sneak peek at what 6, 7, and 8th grades are doing today, and I'm of the opinion that a computer is not even close to the best way to teach them how. At all. It's pathetic.
This is coming from a person who is pathetic at math and always has been. Today confirmed my conviction that I really shouldn't be a math teacher. Ever.
***edit***
I forgot to mention: this 6am thing is killing me! I've taken a long nap after I've gotten home twice in a row. Andre's mocking the hell out of me for it. I might need to start drinking coffee or something...
