I substituted today for a 4th grade class. I enjoy this age group a lot. They are still young enough that they're cute and mostly innocent, but old enough that they know how to behave. Once you get much older than this, they become a heck of a pain to try to control. I've had classes I could only just barely keep from burning the school down.
Thank God this class was good group.
The amusing thing is that I was a substitute squared. Their teacher is out on maternity leave, so they already have a long-term substitute, who happened to have been out today. So, as they never tired of pointing out, I was a substitute for their substitute.
*sigh*
My favorite moment of the day? Math class. This kid named Jon was having some trouble getting equivalent fractions. We worked on it for a couple minutes, and drew a whole lot of lines through circles, until he finally got the hang of it. :-) I just hope the answers we got are right!
When I got home, my adventure continued with Miyagi's second adventure in the back yard. This time, he was a lot better about getting downstairs and out into the yard. Then things got REALLY crazy. We met the cat from next door! I'm pretty happy with the end result. Miyagi wasn't the least bit hostile toward the other cat. If anything, he was curious. Which suggests he's going to be just fine if we decide to get him a cat to keep him company. The one part of our adventure that he wasn't so crazy about was the brushing he got when I got him back upstairs.
