Interesting thoughts about the nature of community.
I was reading a
Q&A from the perspective of a "denaskulo", someone raised with their first language as Esperanto. The guy described how he negatively associated the language with his parents and their associated Esperanto movement beliefs and goals. He talked about his difficulties entering public school as a kid from a different language and culture.
There were a couple aspects to it. One was his disapproval of his parents' unrealistic goals and cult-like idealism. The other aspect was more interesting, a sort of neo-assimilationist urge this guy was describing, wanting to put aside his birth language and culture and people, in favor of the dominant language and culture.
What's the right path? What defines a community or culture or language's merit? Which will we participate, protect, promulgate? Which do we run away from?
