Friday Night Din Din...- The Greenwood Fish Market Bistro

May 24, 2009 20:33

Okay, so we went to the Greenwood Fish Market for dinner on Friday night. I'd love to say their menu looks great, but much of it turned out to be one big cock tease. That's right you Greenwood bastards!!! You're a bunch of cock teasing show ponies!!! We got there around 8:30-9pm only to find much of their menu either a) discontinued or b) sold out. What the hell??? Sold out I can understand, since it wasn't the earliest of times on a Friday night. But the entire meat selection discontinued?!

That's right you heard me, the entire "SURF ‘N’ TURF + MEAT" section of the menu isn't available anymore! You know, that's just peachy. I mean, is it too much to ask to obtain the services of a 3 year old, give him a black marker, and ask him to just cross off that section off the menu with the promises of a happy meal for when he's done? Nooooooo..... they get you all hot and bothered with the notion that there actually is some alternative to seafood on the menu and then BAM! The waiter cock blocks you right when you go in for the order!!!

I know the waiter is just the messenger here, and he shouldn't have to shoulder the blame for this, but well.... It's all just rather unnecessary. A hungrier man would have raised holy hell! On top of that, they were out of our 2 other entree preferences which were the Escargots and Lobster Bisque. Sonofabit.......

Lucky for them what we did manage to order was all pretty good. Except for my Seafood Gumbo... which was like the culinary equivalent of a Jennifer Aniston movie. Which is to say boring as all hell and maybe average at best...

The Greenwood Fish Market Bistro

Sea Scallop with Salmon Belly
Served with Caviar & Ver-juice Hollandaise

Foie Gras and Sea Scallop
Sultana, fig & Port Reduction, served with Bread & Butter Pudding

The Entrees were great though! I loved my Salmon Belly thing as did Erica with her pan seared Foie Gras (I mean.. c'mon... Foie Gras... can any restaurant screw that up?). The salmon belly was wonderfully succulent and I wished there were more of it. Scallops were a tad on the small side, I would have preferred the monster Hokkaido ones and have bit a little bit more raw (because I'm a picky bastard you see)... but the sauce was great though!

The HSP was one of the better ones I've had. It was also the first time I've ever had Lobster claws given that we don't have lobsters with claws back in the land of Oz. We call those things crayfish, and I've never had one. It's actually quite weird. The meat is all spongy like... If I had to liken it to something purely hypothetical, I'd say it would probably be like chewing on an old persons cheek. Don't ask me why.... Not bad though. I did especially enjoy the battered baby octopus, those were excellent.

My gumbo went largely untouched because it was really really average, and the seafood in the platter was so much more interesting. It's a same... they should substitute the Seafood Gumbo with a Jambalaya or something, I reckon it would be so much better on the menu.

Hot Seafood Platter

Hot Seafood Orgy

Seafood Gumbo

Valrhona Warm Chocolate Fondant
with Vanilla Ice Cream + Seasonal Berries

Ivory White Chocolate Parfait
with Raspberry Jelly Coulis & Almond Nougatine

Dessert wasn't too bad either, with Erica ordering the Chocolate Fondant (big surprise), and me the Parfait. As usual with any dessert that contains the word "Valrhona", I couldn't take more than a couple of bites. I don't know how women do the whole super choco chocolately thing.... All up, I'd like to come back and try the other things on the menu here, hopefully when I do they'll actually have them available! Granted, they want to keep the food fresh and prevent carry overs to the next day and as such only have a limited amount of stock available but dammit, I don't want to hear excuses when I'm hungry!!! Take heed Wifey!!! :) <--- better put a smiley face here just in case...
