Random update on Life

The day is Friday: the time, 8:00 AM. The alarm clock goes off and I turn it off. 8:07 AM. The music alarm goes off. That, too, gets turned off. 8:20 AM. Thalia's alarm goes off. She turns that off. 8: 27 AM she drags herself out of bed. 8: 35 AM. I drag myself out of bed.

And even with a ten minute walk, I made it in plenty of time...to take my Civil War History test. *le sigh* It's not that I don't like the class. I'm loving it, actually. None of my previous history courses have ever done too much on the Civil War. It's just that I have trouble remembering all the facts. It doesn't help that, as this is a 300 upper level course, the prof is having us read outside materials. Again, not a bad thing. I've enjoyed most of the books I've had to read so far. The only problem is that he crafts a special essay question based on the books we've read for this unit. My question was asking "what were the 7 turning points in the Civil War as described by __author's name__?" Well, I could remember five of them. I had them written down on the handout with the test question on them. Since I couldn't remember (and talk about) all , I picked 3 to talk about, alluded to a fourth and hinted that there were more. I should get at least partial credit. Anyways, the other sucky part about these tests is that the rest of the class voted on a format of 4 short answer questions: pick 3 to answer. I voted against this because that requires a lot of general and specific knowledge. Ah well. I did the best I could.

The fun doesn't end here, though! I had another test today - this time in my Sci Fi lit class. Now, I doubt I need to tell you that this class has been a breeze. I've really, really been enjoying it. [brags]Got the highest grade on the last test, too.[/brag] This test, however, was over some of my least favorite readings we've done thus far. The main book: "The Man in the High Castle" by Phillip K. Dick. Not a bad book. The man was crazy, but not too bad. The only other parts of this unit were short stories. The first was proof that letting idiots near a time machine is a bad idea. The second was pretty good. You'd have to read it to understand it, but I liked it. Kinda wish is was part of a book so I could read all of it. The third, however...when both Thalia and I don't understand it at all, then no one else in the class is going to stand a chance. It was weird as hell. My only real gripe about this test was the length. When you have only one hour, completing an essay and 10 short answer questions can be kinda hard. I've worked up to the bell each time so far.

*stretches* In other news, I'm not going to be in North Texas this weekend. I'm currently sitting in Thalia's family's living room using her lap top. I'm meeting up with Elder Sibling tomorrow to make an overnight trip to Houston.

Expect exciting news very soon!!!!

I'll be heading back north just after 12 on Sunday. After that, there are only 3 full weeks of classes left. And somewhere in there, I have to fit in taking the GRE and getting started on my grad school applications. Things are about to get busy.
