Quarter Century
As I've been remarking for a while now, today I am officially a quarter-century years old. A couple years ago upon turning 22 I lamented the fact that there were no more "societally-imposed birthday milestones" to look forward to, except perhaps turning 25 and getting to rent a car at a cheaper rate. Well, now I'm there, too. How time flies.
All-in-all, this has been a most awesome of birthdays. anailia successfully planned and executed a surprise birthday party (with the help of magus341 as a distraction) far more expertly than I would have previously imagined. You've definitely raised the bar, dear ;-). There was food, friends (beyond the aforementioned anailia and magus341, there was also archwright, zephistopheles, linarien, lapetitelune, mindofinsanity, xxratedredgexx, anailia's best friend Getty, and magus341's sister Theresa), and lots of fun. I got a triple-pack of Settlers of Catan plus two of its expansions: "Seafarers" and "Cities & Knights", along with the 5-6 Player expansion for all three. After a couple people had to leave, we played a six player game of Seafarers. It was much fun. Theresa, who amazingly had never played any flavor of Catan (magus341 didn't raise her very well!), ended up winning. Catan really has the whole "beginner's luck" thing going for it: almost everyone who plays for their first time with a group who've all played before seems to win. But yeah, joviality ensued :-).
The day after, my parents came down to visit (they didn't want to crash a party of 20-somethings). It was more sedate, to be sure, but still good. anailia made some really yummy home-made veggie burgers which I recommend she should make again sometime :-).
Then yesterday my LJ-less brother Matt came down, and lapetitelune came over again and we played four-player Seafarers. We were gonna try Cities & Knights, but it looked to be too complicated to learn and play in one night.
In other news, I had some of the worst insomnia ever last night. I ended up getting maybe three hours of sleep. I'm fading fast. Early to bed for me tonight!
