July 2008 Month in Review
I know I just did one of these last week, but in an effort to get in the habit of doing this at the beginning of each month, here is my month in review of my goals for the month of July. I'll keep it brief:
Goal 1: Reach rung 15 on the Hacker's Diet excercise plan - I ended June on rung 7. I ended July on rung 8. So, I budged. But I think I went down to only a 50%-60% success rate. I have an idea! Maybe I should keep a record for myself of what days I successfully complete the exercises. That would inject some self-accountability into this goal. I think I'll try that from now on.
Goal 2: Increase non-retirement savings by 40% - anailia got a nice bonus at the end of July, pushing us to a 1.9% increase in July for a total increase of 39.5%. It's very likely now that we will cross that 40% mark soon, but probably not the more ambitious 50% mark I thought about in May. We'll just try to push it as high as we can.
Goal 3a: Solve one Project Euler problem a month using Python - Got two done, one for missing it in June, and one for July.
Goal 3b: Write 3 LiveJournal posts a month - I got the bare minimum. My new approach to this goal will be to write at least one LJ post a week, to try to focus and aim for higher quality posts.
Goal 3c: Write one letter a month - I wrote 3: to my two Senators and one Congressman, on different issues important to me and/or the country (Social Security, offshore drilling, and public transportation). This was to make up for missing May and June as well.
Goal 4a: Visit six cultural institutions this year - I saw a community theater production of "Guys and Dolls" on July 11, which lapetitelune was a cast member in.
Previously excursions:
June 19 - anailia, lapetitelune, mindofinsanity saw the National Portrait Gallery, the Hirshhorn Museum, the National Museum of Natural History, and Benjamin Banneker Park
April 26 - anailia, magus341, xxratedredgexx, lapetitelune, mindofinsanity, and LJ-less Matt saw the Freer Gallery of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum, and ate at an Bistro Bis.
Goal 4b: Go on three outdoorsy trips this year - None in July.

Goal 4d: Have a no-plans weekend each month - Still the hardest goal to accomplish! Couldn't do it in July.
