This art is based on the ss/hg fic Lost & Found by borolin where Snape is tortured and maimed and returned to Dumbledore as a message. Despite the appearance, he is not dead in the image.
Those who know me, know I feel this fic is a definite must-read. It does not gloss over his injuries, stint his recovery nor the difficulties he faces mentally, physically and emotionally. It is harsh, but also comforting. The author notes are amusing and informative. It is a wip, but where it currently leaves off (chapter 28) is a pleasant and hopeful place. In fact, I'd be content with the fic as-is if the authors decide to abandon it.
For those who do not know or have not read the fic, the torture and maiming includes starvation, amputations, and yes, there is blood. The image is very much as I envisioned it whilst reading the fic - how they leave him (in a storeroom) to be found: Pain by harmleikur
