Been getting over some nasty head congestion that was either a cold or some passing bug (not to mention a *bad* arthritic flare) so hadn't felt up to posting or even tweeting (a definite sign of 'oh noes'), but feeling a bit more chipper today. One thing I love about tumblr is my ability to set entries to post in advance, so even when I'm under the weather, I feel as if I have a net presence and that's comforting. :-)
We saw Quartet weekend before last, but I hadn't had the oomph to say anything more than it was good. Here's a bit more of a review:
Quartet That said, have
a few recs:
ss/rw:
White Balloons by Kosaka. Ignoring the author's protestations of poor quality (and glad I did) this is one of those rare satisfying slash fics that contains no graphic sex and you don't miss it. Wonderful and *smart* dialogue, witty, USTy, a drop angsty and it takes the reader on a short but pleasing ride to a smooth and comfortable stop. I really hope Kosaka chooses to write more of this pairing or in this universe. Lovely. I rec saving it for when you feel the need for something that is cheering.
ss/hg:
Droxy's Folly by stgulik. This is a dark au that drags you under, but let's you surface from time to time to breathe before sucking you under again. Dark & beautiful & desperate & freeing - that wonderful sort of tale you cannot put down, cannot bear to read at times and cannot believe it's over when you reach the end. The smut is incendiary, the UST burning, the hurts trowelled high where the comfort is scant relief but the thread of hope, redemption & love is powerful and buoying.
must-read for ss/hg fans:
If you're a fan of angst wrapped in bile-bitter snark,
If you like your fic doused with realism, wrenching lows and bright sweet moments,
If you ever wanted to read about the struggles of an alcoholic Snape complete with 12-stepping, an enabler, and lots of falls off the proverbial wagon
Run, don't walk, to the new site housing those deleted from ffn for mature content and read
Snape's Story by Tbird1965. Yes, there are some typos, but the tale being told will pull you in. *whew* I rec saving this for when you're in the mood for a long, delicious, angst-filled slog.
