Best Albums 2017

Feb 27, 2018 22:47

Yes it's quite delayed.

I'm in a relatively good mood so lets get this done.

Honorable Mentions:

Linkin Park - One More Light - An album which will always stand on its own because it is the last with Chester. Heavy is an amazing track while the rest of them coast on quite good.
All Time Low - Last Young Renegade - Another solid catchy album but I guess the fact I can't think of any songs off the top of my head is telling.
Lorde - Melodrama - Some noteworthy bangers on here but also some whiney flops as well. Green light holds the album up but supercut, liability and homemade dynamite deserve mention as well.
Betty Who - The Valley - Another good album with some solid tracks: Human Touch, Some Kinda Wonderful and Blue Heaven Midnight Crush. The rest of the album is above average.
Hey Violet - From the Outside - I didn't "discover" many new artists in 2017 but these guys were some pure pop fun which I needed. Most of the songs have catchy hooks and I can listen to on repeat.
Niall Hoarn - Flicker - A solid album from the only 1D cunt with any talent. Keep it up.
Walk the Moon - What if Nothing - I feel like I need to keep listening to this as it certainly feels like a grower
Paloma Faith - The Architect - I feel like this was missing something, a couple of good songs though.
The Chainsmokers - Memories...Do Not Open - A pity these guys are douchebags because their songs are quite good
Bebe Rexha - All Your Fault Part 1 & 2 - Hit and miss. But when it hits it hits hard
Sia - Everyday is Christmas - Some absolute bangers on this, if it werent for the slower christmas bluesy songs it would have cracked the ten.
Galantis - The Aviary - Not as good as their first album but a solid effort for their sophomore outing.
Vera Blue - Perennial - Excellent album which I really tried to place in the top ten.

Top Ten

10. Imagine Dragons - Evolve

Only just scraping into the top ten we have imagine dragons who may only be there through my bias for their first albums. I don't know why, Whatever it takes, Believer, Mouth of the River are all great tracks and the others are quite good. OK so listening to samples of each track is reminding me why this is so good. Must relisten more often!

{C}9. Halsey - hopeless fountain kingdom (Deluxe)

I waited until 2017 to discover Halsey. What a fucking voice. Even songs that I initially wasn't keen on became quite good after a few listens. Heaven in Hiding is one of my favourite songs of the year along with Now or Never and Eyes Closed. Bad at Love is also the tits.

8. Kygo - Kids in Love

Kygo continues to dominate with an amazing second album which has several excellent tracks including: Kids in Love, Never Let You Go, Sunrise, Permenant, Stargazing, It Aint Me and First TIme.
Even the average tracks are only average by comparison to the high standard set.

7. Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa was well overdue to release her first album and a string of hits already guaranteed this was going to have huge potential with: Lost in Your Love, Hotter Than Hell, Be the One and Blow Your Mind. Unexpected bangers like IDGAF and New Rules blew this album into the big league deservedly. Nearly 12 months on there are still tracks dominating the charts. In this day thats fucking impressive when people will consume and suck an album dry with all tracks "released" and done within a matter of months. The size of the album is the only potential downfall as there are a few dud tracks towards the end, particularly New Love.

6. Major Lazor - Know No Better (EP)

This is nearly cheating because this EP was my anthem for my Spain trip. The tracks all had a heavy hispanic dance vibe which really jelled with my trip and great to party along to. Looking back over it I only gave all the tracks 3 stars. Going back over them it is clear I was delusional, I have rectified this situation.

5. Miley Cyrus - Younger Now

A departure from typical pop Miley this album was an electic mix of genre's (Mostly pop and country)  that just worked.
Highlights: Younger Now, Malibu, Love Someone, Rainbowland

4. Ed Sheeran - %
{C}
{C}
Easily one of the best albums of the year coming out swinging early. Ed proves he can do no wrong delivering banger after banger. I cannot wait to see him live again in a fortnight.
Fucking Bangers: Galway GIrl, Nancy Mulligan
Hightlights: Castle on a HIll, Shape of You, Dive, Barcelona, Supermarket Flowers, What Do I Know, New Man, Happier
Lowlights: Literally None

3. Kesha - Rainbow
{C}
{C}
Another pop/country hybrid album which absolutely smashed its was into existence with the release of Praying which pretty much has to be awarded the best song of 2017. WHAT A FUCKING BANGER. Speaking of bangers, Woman, Let Em Talk, Hunt You Down and Spaceship are all certified in that department. The whole tone of the album has the fuck you/feminism kesha vibe with the added comeback/warrior aspect of her story. It oozes empowerment.

Top 2

Right this showdown between pink and Tove Lo is going to be insane, I still don't know who is taking out the crown. This will require some intense scrutiny and an elaborate scoring system of some kind.
Commercial Success - Pink Wins
Edginess - Tove Lo WIns
4 Star Plus tracks - Tove Lo = 6  Pink = 8
OK fuck it I listened to the highlights and Tove Lo pulls me in that little bit more. Don't get me wrong I cant help but sing my lungs out to both but I connect to Tove Lo that little bit more,

2. Pink - Beautiful Trauma

More amazingness from a bitch that will not stop releasing amazing songs/albums. No apologies for falling in love every time as it is fucking deserved.
Highlights: Beautiful Trauma, What About us, But We Lost It, Where We Go, For Now, I am Here, Wild Hearts Cant Be Broken

1. Tove Lo - Blue Lips

Follow up to last years Lady Wood was going to be tough to top but she certainly came close. IT is essentially a continuation on the vibe and sound of Lady Wood which is definitely NOT a bad thing. I am surprised it was released quickly and quietly as it deserved a MUCH bigger release and response than it got.
Highlights: DIsco Tits, Shivering Gold Stranger,Dont Ask Dont Tell, Struggle, Cycles
