I seem to have dodged the storm (Sandy) unintentionally. I did get a day off work about that, though. My thoughts are with my parents who have no power. There are apparently downed power lines on our not-well-traveled street.
I briefly visited Portland OR last weekend with John. The downtown is very pretty, Powell's is full of books, and I liked walking about the park and history/cultural areas. The outskirts are like Seattle but, uh, more rundown. Driving in a car there can be a pain- the rain was actually pretty heavy, but John said he saw why people still biked. I do re-recommend
Andina, which
silvergoose and his wife referred to us. It was a bit loud to start, but the people were willing to seat us further from the live music.
The 'drip' at Stumptown is actually pretty good- I tried the
Hair Bender. They sell it in Boston these days, downtown at
Thinking Cup.
Yesterday I bopped around downtown, stopped in at
Dilettante and wandered about window and sock shopping. I actually did buy socks, but not windows. Anyway, I do not know why I really like the Westlake Center intersection. It's a monument to consumerism, and yet the blue trees and fountain and geometry all around make it appealing. It continues to rain, although it was nice for a bit yesterday. Then I got to hang out with
kiddens! That was pretty sweet.
