Filter - Soldiers of Misfortune

Finally, Filter is out with a new record! I'm so glad - I've been waiting forever since their 2002  "Amalgamut" album to get their new music, and it's here, it's brilliant, and it's unmistakeably Filter (although made with the collaboration of musicians such as John 5, Wes Borland and Josh Freese).

Their first single is the above, entitled "Soldiers of Misfortune". The thing is, I've heard so many anti-Bush/anti-war songs in the past coupla years that I don't usually trust that any good can come out of a topic like this. This song, however, is surprisingly not very patriotic, yet surprisingly moving. Richard Patrick's voice has improved a lot (actually, in this song, he sounds quite like Bono), but it's still very original, and the track also features their trademark guitar sound that sends chills of joy up my spine every time I hear it: the "whistle feedback".

All in all, I still have to listen to the album many times to let it ripe, but I am very satisfied to acknowledge that one of my favourite-ever bands is not down the drain, to say the least!
