So, I don't know who has read about this:
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118001588.html?categoryid=14&cs=1 In short, Stephen Colbert exhorted his viewers to write-in vote for his name in the Space Station room naming contest on the NASA website. Apparently, over 230,000 people did just that. Or less people voted that many times. Whatever. Same result.
Ha ha, funny stuff, oui? Non!
What irks me, really, is that 'Serenity' was winning the name contest thus far. It's now losing by at least 40,000 votes. Really, this should be viewed as a giant middle finger raised at the geekiest among us. I mean, come on. Do you want to look to the heavens and think of Colbert? No! You want to look at the heavens and think about how great it would be to have a threesome with Kaylee and River. Or Wash and Zoe. Or Malcolm and Simon. Or with Inara and another Inara. Or Jayne and Saffron (eep!). Or pretty much any character ever on the show who isn't Shepherd Book. And that threesome would take place on Serenity itself, of course.
But now those starlit dreams are ruined. Ruined by the possibility that there will soon be an area of Space Station named after a comedian who, although I find him very funny, just isn't as cool to me as Firefly is. Also, I have never forgiven him for being a dick to the creators of The Venture Bros.
