I've decided (for now) to move my fandomy and artwork journalling over to Vox. I'm not sure if I like their community structure, and they don't seem to have the ability to LJ cut that I can find, but I like how easy it is to embed fun stuff into the posts and ontl the journal. This is more or less an academic question for icon makers and other artists. But is there any one moment where you can track a stylistic jump for you in style and techniques?  I mean in hands on media, it could be a tool or a technique, like when I discovered the tortillion and my horses went from this to this in the space of the same year.
