Short Biography: Michelle is the daughter of an abusive father and an alcoholic mother. As a result she grew up with low self esteem, a bullying nature, insecurities in herself, and fierce temper towards anyone who hurt her with a complete lack of consideration for her actions or the consequences of her actions. The majority of her adult life has been spent behind bars. She was originally incarcerated with a life sentence for kidnapping, torturing, and eventually murdering the woman her ex boyfriend left her for. Whilst in Larkhall, she had a bullying nature towards other inmates, referring to herself as the ‘top dog’ of the wing. She regularly manipulated the weaker inmates into doing her dirty work for her, which mostly involved obtaining contraband. She was also no stranger to violence, often violently attacking anyone who refused to do what she asked. She was also often the victim to violence, and on a number of occasions was beaten by a corrupt guard on the wing. Eventually she had extra time added to her sentence after she tried to kill the guard who’d beaten her. She lured him into her cell one night when she’d obtained a piece of broken glass from a bottle. Once he was inside her cell, she stabbed him in the stomach and held him hostage for a while until other guards finally managed to get to him. He was taken to hospital and was lucky to have survived the attack. Michelle always maintained she’d attacked him because he’d tried to rape her, but it was never clear weather this was true or not. Some time after that incident, herself and two of her friends, Denny and Shaz had planned to escape with the help of the same guard she’d attacked, who had now recovered, and no longer wanted Michelle around. The escape was successful, however she was later captured and brought back, only now she was pregnant. She gave birth in prison but her baby was soon taken away from her after the same corrupt guard she’d had trouble with in the past said she’d tried to smother the baby - this was a lie, but then who was going to believe a convict over a guard? The prison doctor then arranged for her to be transferred to a psychiatric hospital, suspecting she was suffering from a possible psychosis - which even though she hadn’t tried to kill her baby, was still true. Michelle was then transferred to Royal Park for a brief time, but her baby being taken into care - the third of her children to have been taken away sent her on a downward spiral. Whilst in Royal, she was aggressive, violent, and eventually transferred to a prison for the criminally insane. Whilst back in prison, she’d had a secret affair with a guard which once again lead to her being pregnant. This time though, Michelle changed after she discovered the pregnancy. Staff noticed a huge improvement in her attitude and behaviour. By this time, it had also been proven that back in Larkhall, she in fact hadn’t tried to smother her baby born there, and so, under the agreement of close supervision, Michelle was allowed to keep this baby with her on a mother and baby unit of the prison. The birth of her fourth child, a little girl who she named Lilly, was really a turning point for her. She’d already seen three of her children taken from her, and each time, it drove her closer to the edge. She couldn’t go through that again, and so, she made the decision that she had to accept help, she had to make it work. After a few months, the decision was made that she was stable enough to return to Royal. Her baby would have to be placed in foster care, but it was under the agreement that the foster parents would bring the child to visitation, and the child would be returned to her upon her release.

Anything Else Important We Should Know: Michelle is going through a transitional period. On the whole, she is improving, but she occasionally has a lapse where her old self comes through. She’s also convinced that Lilly will be eventually taken away, just like her other three, but she’s willing to do anything to stop that happening. The birth of Lilly has also sparked a wave of depression, a depression that has been bottled up over the years, particularly relating to the loss of her first three children who she has no idea where they live or who with. Michelle is a previous patient returning to Royal.
