Okay so I just got back from the Orchestra Awards Banquet and holy shit. I wasn't. I wasn't expecting. Oh my god.
So I got:
-my service bar
-award for 3rd-highest point earner (basically a measure of the extent to which one has sold one's soul to music)
-Most Dedicated 12th-Grade Student
-1st place J. Kimball Harriman Memorial Scholarship winner, with $300 prize
-Director's Award, with $150 prize
and like. oh my god I just. I can't believe it. I mean I know I worked hard and I loved this orchestra and basically sold my soul to it for four years, but... jesus I wasn't expecting to win the scholarship, or the director's award, and oh my god I just. Can't believe how happy and proud and excited I am. It was a surprising and astounding and endlessly wonderful evening. I'm so happy.
And now! I can pay for the New Mexico freshman backpacking trip! WAH I'M SO EXCITED.
One damper on the evening: My brother called me midway through the banquet to tell me he got T-boned. I about died of a heart attack, but thankfully everything's fine. The paint got scratched and there's going to be obnoxious insurance issues, but he and my sister are okay, just freaked out. The whole deal turned out to be really minor.
So: Great evening. Amazing evening. Incredible evening. Fuck I'm gonna miss this orchestra.
