SO much fun this weekend - started by closing on the refinance (seriously awesome experience with Discover Home Loans - easiest, most painless refi I've ever done) Friday night, followed by PAX East and a night in Boston Saturday, and a quiet day yesterday. Although we did our taxes and owe like $7K, so yeah, I was pretty upset for a bit, but lots of silver linings pointed out and it'll work itself out.
Tyler went to PAX Friday and Saturday, Friday on his own for the most part, which he said he kinda enjoyed - he didn't do anything he didn't want to, so he got to see lots of panels. VERY interesting to watch the panels he picks now - rather than just the big names, he goes to things like "Mental Health and Video Games" and "Violence in Video Games and Kids" - as he continues to study, he's showing a lot of interest in the "why" and "how" of the business instead of the "I like to play video games" that he's apparently seeing in about half the kids he goes to school with.
Saturday he spent half the time with us, and half the time he kept running into friends, both old and new, and would take off with them for a bit. We spent the day with a friend who we've known since 2000, after meeting in an online game, but never met - Jim drove down in the snowstorm from Nova Scotia with a group, but set aside Saturday to hang with us. We also met another of our online friends, Joe, who exhibits and speaks every year (we met him last year, but Jim had never met) - and we all went to lunch together with Tyler, and sat there talking like we just saw each other a few weeks ago. It was so comfortable, and so much fun, and it meant a LOT to all of us to finally get to spend time together like this. We talked about all our other old friends, and how much we miss them - never realized exactly how many Jim had met, and how many he still hangs out with online, kinda cool. HUGE memory lane type of lunch, with lots of pictures taken, and toasts raised in honor of past experiences. Hopefully they all felt the virtual hugs and love headed their way.
Got to see the one panel I wanted to see, talking about Bioshock Infinite, which comes out TOMORROWWWWWWWWWW OMG!!!!!!!!! - and also went to several fun ones like "the worst apps ever made" (laughed till I was crying) and one of my favorites, "Retrograming Roundtable", which is like Antiques Roadshow for video games. Joe was one of the three appraisers, and they got to appraise some freaking AMAZING things. The biggest thing was a sealed, very hard to find game they put a value of about $2K on - when I think of how much I got rid of....ugh.
After that last one, went to a late (yes, I made it to 10pm) dinner with Jim, said goodbye, and went to the hotel - driving Tyler home the next morning from Boston.
Feeling much much better - all done with one of my meds as of yesterday, 3 more days of the other one.
Crazy week at work, but I cannot WAIT to play this game tomorrow. =D
