Title: You've Got a (Somewhat) Friend in Me
Word count: No idea
Rating: PG for humor. Involving ripped clothing, of course
Characters: Leon, D and a furry new friend
Warnings: Ripping of clothing and slight AU crack. But I'm not saying anything more.
A/N: Response to Challenge # 312, Shelter. I'm replying to old challenges that were never replied to in an effort to hopefully restart this somewhat dead community. Or at least help me practice. So yeah, have your pick. This is also part of a long series I have planned out with this new furry friend, who is actually part of a crossover idea...

Enjoy!

D turned his nose up at the creature, obviously repulsed.

"Detective, what have you dragged into my shop now?"

Leon frowned at D, eyes narrowed. "What do you think?" he asked, crossing his arms. "It's pretty clear right? I would think you know what they call this kind of four legged creature these days, D." The dog next to him "harrumphed" in agreement, sitting obediently still on his hindquarters. D took his turn to frown, first at Leon, then at the dog.

"I know what he is." remarked D, his dual-colored eyes cold and sharp. "What I'm asking is, why is he here?" The dog looked up to Leon as if considering the same question, to which Leon shrugged his shoulders.

"I have to get him checked up." He stated simply, looking at D in that expectant "You already owe me favors so repay me this way" kind of way. "Seeing as I've got no cash to spare seeing how someone," he spared a scathing look at D, "keeps draining my wallet, I thought you might be able to do it. You can, can't you?" D sighed.

"Detective, this is a pet shop, not a veterinary office." Leon leveled another glare at this remark, his hands going straight to his hips.

"So? These aren't my orders, D. They're the Chief's." Before D could even muster a look of surprised, Leon drove onward. "He's a new dog we adopted for the K-9 unit since Tony's partner Casper retired. Remember her? Yeah, the old gal had a good run, but she's all washed up now for a 12 year old. Anyway, he's her replacement."

D frowned. "Her replacement? Well, she was an old boxer, but...this kind of dog?" Pointing for emphasis, D exclaimed, "Detective, this is a Beauceron, not a German Shepard: it's not fit for policing."

As if he was insulted by the accusation, the dog stood and sneezed on D, much to his disgust.

Leon gave a lopsided smirk, his eyes creasing. "I wouldn't think so D. He may be an odd sort, but he's already proved his worth to the force. Hell, before we even picked him out from the rabble, he had already sniffed out some pot head dealers behind the shelter." He gave a pat to the old dog's head, to which the hound happily returned the affection with a lick to the detective's hand. "Trust me D, he's going to be a great addition to the LAPD. But that's after he gets his check up, alright?"

D continued to look between the two, one who grinned triumphantly at him and the other who seemed to stare at him in contempt. A gloom overcame him and he sighed. "Oh fine." he snapped, turning away. "I don't care anymore. I'll have a look at him, if you so wish, but may I keep reminding you for future reference, that this is and will always be a pet shop?" Leon laughed, truly laughed.

"Alright, alright, I'll keep the memo...now, if you can just-"

Suddenly, there was the sound of cloth tearing, with D looking backwards, a horrified picture on his face of as he saw what remained of his trailing long dress. Leon tried to keep his eyes up from looking down at D's now-bare legs, but couldn't stop the flush creeping up on his face.

D looked absolutely murderous. "Detective, please tell me that your flea-ridden mongrel did not ruin my favorite kimono?" Leon spared a glance at the happy dog who held pieces of the long fabric loosely in his teeth. He frowned once more as the canine flashed him a feral grin that clearly stated "I'm not sorry about anything".

"Bad dog. Very bad dog."

A/N: For anyone who's curious as to what a Beauceron looks like, here's a photo of one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Owczarek_francuski_beauceron_009pl.jpg  I absolutely adore this breed, they're so cute!

This, like I said before, is part of a long AU series I have planned out, which basically revolves around Leon adopting a dog who, in a former life, was actually an Inspector of the Law. Poor D, now he has two officers on his trail. It's a humor crack-fic really, that involves a lot of crossovers from classic to not so classic, so I'm not sure I'll put it up on FF.net. But maybe on the PSoH fanfiction community? Yeah, that might be good.

I put the title as such only because when I hear the original song, I can't help but think of canines, or my cat who thinks she's a canine.
