I figured I spent too much time not writing, so...here's to make it up guys!

Title: Gift
Author: Me!
Word count: I never know...
Characters: D and Leon, naturally
Warning: Leon and his mouth
Rating: PG..13 ish?
Notes: Songs inspire me. This one was inspired by a Youtube video about "gifts"...in the wrong and right ways. The animal itself...well, yeah. It happened. Also, I wrote this in under like...five minutes or so, so if it's crappy, you know why. Also, note a bit of swearing on Leon's part, will you?

The question is fired rudely at him but, as always, he overlooks the rudeness to lock steely eyes with the other man.

"Fuck it D, what did you sell that girl!?!? We found her dead this morning, along with the rest of her family sprawled all over the floor, and I KNOW she came here days before she died!"

To this, D offers a cold smirk, his eyes still trained upon the detective's outraged form. "So? That proves little, my dear Detective; she did indeed visit my shop, but that would be of little association to her death, wouldn't it?" Leon gives him an equally cold glare.

"Bullshit. You sold her something, something that killed her. What did you give her!?" D smiles and it's empty.

"Wouldn't you like to know.." he says, not asks and remains silent for awhile. But once the silence has let up, his smirk returns with a vengeance. "I sold her a mare, nothing more."

Leon's glower is to falter. "..You sold her a horse?" To this, D stifles a mean laugh.

"Hardly. It is a creature that brings about dreams, more often bad ones than good." Hiding his callous smile behind his teacup, he continues on. "Our girl, wasn't she one leading a terrible life? Everything that was every good, turned to ashes..she was scorned, neglected like the doll her husband hated. She asked me to give her a pet that could give her the greatest gift of all; a pet that could overshadow her haunting of good times and dreams." Leon blinks, his face written in confusion.

"Why would she want that? Wouldn't it be better to keep those things?"

D shrugs, honestly at a loss. "Perhaps she wanted it all to end. Maybe she desired a "better way out". Who knows? But she did choose the greatest gift of them all."

D smiles into his cup, apparently satisfied. "Fear, especially from a nightmare, makes it painless. A painless death in sleep...what could ever be a better gift, Detective?  What could ever be a better poison?"

----

...Ahahaha. What's with me and my morbid mind?

If you didn't get it, Mare (plural: Mara)  is a German creature of nightmares.  Because of this, D references the German word for "Gift"; In English, gift means "present", but in German...well, what's the last word of this drabble?

More to come later.
