Christmas break has started for me!

Is there any real value in a holiday that only seems to exist anymore to remind us of what we don't have, can't have, and never will have?

We should be able to get and use some kind of social PTO to get out of holiday events such as this. So it would be called HTO (holiday time off). "Nah, I can't Christmas this year. I don't feel up for it." We collectively did that last year. So there is a precedent. Which is good. We probably need the ability to regularly do that, as a means to give us ourselves a break when we're not ready for the holidays. We need to climb out from under the 1500 metric tons of holiday traditions that are forced on us, and figure out which ones we can get rid of (which I dare say is most of them). We're constantly reminded of "you must achieve 100% Christmas and here are the 23943 things required for it or else everyone repeats the whole year" and that number creeps up every year. We need to stop expecting everyone to go all in on celebrating then holding it against them if they don't. We need to just let anyone have an out however they want. We need to understand that forcing everyone to celebrate only weakens and devalues the overall meaning for those who genuinely want to celebrate it.

My company gives me the week off between Christmas and New Years and slacker that I am, I'm planning to aggressively do nothing.
