Olfactory Matters
I suspect I know the answer to this already, but does anybody else have difficulty in distinguishing between the odours of bleach and gas (as in natural gas, the popular domestic fuel, rather than whatever it is that Americans put in their cars or any other sort of gas)? I find it slightly disturbing that my household cleaning efforts are usually followed by a period of blind panic and a desperate urge to phone the gas board. Conversely, I imagine that my last words will be something along the lines of "I don't remember cleaning in here. I'll just turn on the li..." accompanied by a huge ball of fire and a headline in the Somerset County Gazette.
I was trying to come up with a solution to this and I'm slightly ashamed to admit that I thought of getting a canary several minutes before it occurred to me to use something other than bleach to clean with. Possibly it would also help if I didn't clean the bathroom at 3am.
