[One For All] In the library, or elsewhere

Jun 24, 2009 14:02

Nikola's library, of course, is much more impressive than Helen's, but she does have one or two extremely interesting texts, and he's certainly not above making use of them while he's here. So you might find him sprawled across a couch in the corner, feet up, flipping idly through a very large book.

(ooc: Whatever's most comfortable for you. Lots of different styles out there and many people here who have never played before anyways. We'll eventually settle into something that works for everyone :))

*Will is walking back to his car after visiting a local mental hospital to make sure the "delusional" patient wasn't actually an abnormal. Wasted his whole afternoon determining that the guy was truly bonkers and is so irritated by that fact that he's walked a good thirty or forty past Tesla before what he sees really registers. Then he just has to go back.*

The pigeon thing is actually true?

Nikola saw him pass, of course, but chose not to say anything. He glances up at Will quickly, then back to the birds.

"Of course. There's documented evidence of it after all," he adds with a smirk, knowing full well much of the documented evidence of his activities is fake.

Will laughs and shakes his head. "I'd assumed it was just one more mind-fuck against the rest of the world," he explains, sitting down. "You know, the whole 'I'm afraid of germs, yet I love winged rats who shit everywhere' thing."

He sucks his thumb-pad thoughtfully for a moment. "Nikola Tesla, lover of small animals. God, that's surreal..."

"Actually," Nikola points out, "pigeons carry about fifty times as many germs as rats, but that's hardly something I need to worry about."

He coos a little to the pigeon nearest him, holding some crumbs in his hand, coaxing the bird closer. Possibly this adds to the surreality.

Will looks around for a minute, then starts searching his pockets. "Weird. I could have sworn I left reality around here somewhere..."

"Are you sure Helen doesn't just keep you around for your boyish good looks?" Nikola asks dryly, smiling as the bird pecks a few crumbs from his palm.

Will laughs and shakes his head. "I wouldn't put anything past that woman." He stares at the bird for a moment. "How do you do that. You're a predator. It should be terrified of you. Pheromones?" And then his expression just gets evil. "And can you do it to humans?"

(ooc: Will really shouldn't be waving that neck around in front of a vampire, especially given some of their past interactions, lol)

"City pigeons have very few natural predators," Nikola points out. "That's why they're so prevalent. The pheromones help." He grins up at Will and his hand curls carefully around the bird, picking it up. "As for doing it to humans...what do you think?"

[ooc: Hee. Not like Nikola needs any more temptation.]

"I may not be the best judge of such things. I had an ulterior motive, after all." Glances down at the pigeon. "Will it let me pet it?"

"Perhaps," Nikola says. He wraps his long fingers gently around the bird, like a cage, and makes a sort of 'come closer' motion to Will.

"Take your time," he says and coos to the bird to keep it calm.

Will resists the urge to hold his breath. This is amazing. Completely underlines exactly how dangerous Tesla actually is, but it's also fascinating on a lot of levels. He leans closer and, with a shaking hand, lightly strokes the pigeon's back, making a mental note not to touch his own face until he can use the hand sanitizer in his glove-compartment.

"This is amazing," he whispers, staring up at Tesla. "You do realize that, if this level of thrall can be exerted on a human, you could become even more useful to Magnus than you already are?"

He shrugs. "I don't know that it's so much thrall. Pigeons like these are more or less domesticated. Anyone with a gentle hand and a soothing voice could probably do the same."

And, of course, pigeons are much easier to understand than humans. Their motivations are simpler.

Will shakes his head. "I don't know, Tesla. I've seen pigeons walk up to people for food, but I have never seen one climb into the hand of a human being. Besides..." He leans over and sniffs Tesla's shoulder where it meets his neck, then straightens. "Yeah. I wasn't imagining it. You actually do smell like a predator..."

Nikola shivers slightly as Will approaches, and he sets the bird down calmly. "It hardly climbed into my hand," he points out, resisting the temptation to catch Will by the back of his neck and keep him closer.

"What does a predator smell like, anyhow?"

"Feral and powerful." He shrugs, Tesla's response not lost on him. "Predators smell of desire. Need, Tesla. You smell like a creature that very badly needs something."

Nikola arches an eyebrow at him and sets the pigeon down. "I wouldn't say I very badly need something, Will dear. But I do want a great many things."
