And then there was smut. Well, maybe ...

Well, almost 3 years after starting the story I'm still currently working on, I've reached the second half of chapter 8. It turns out - although I really didn't expect it to take so many words - the second half of chapter 8 is where the smut comes in. Bearing in mind that the whole point of the story was the porn, it's more than a little annoying that it's taken this long, and 30000 words, to get there. Curse me and my overwhelming need to make smut emotionally plausible.

Of course, now I've got there, and now that I'm faced with the idea of writing filth again, I've completely lost any confidence in my ability to write it well (cos, you know, it is surprisingly hard to write well). The last time I wrote anything of the sort at any length was over two years ago, and now I'm faced with the prospect of completely wrecking 3 years work. Of course, there doesn't have to be any particular naughtiness. It might be better if there wasn't, but I repeat, the whole point was the porn. Specifically, wrong, incestuous porn about characters from a much-loved story. Partly because it's kind of fun to write, and partly because this is my revenge on C. S. Lewis for using his privileged position as a writer and trying to worm his religion into children's brains without their knowledge or agreement.
I know I've probably spoken about this before - it's something that never fails to annoy me - but seriously that 'pre-evangelising purpose' that his stories have rather makes me want to break things, to be honest. But rather than break things, Ive decided to take his characters and write smut about them. By far the more sensible response, I think.

So yes, there's the second half of chapter 8, then a chapter 9, I think, and then an epilogue, and then that's it. I'm determined to finish it by the end of this year if it kills me!

Googling the possibility of a 4th film after Voyage of the Dawn Treader, it appears that Walden Media have a moratorium on any films being made without their involvement and they have no plans to make any others so the earliest possible time the next one could come out is 2018. I'll be 46 or something. Urgh.

I have such a love/hate relationship with the whole thing. You can tell, can't you?

At least the second Hunger Games film is definitely due for release in November, and I guess the next one will be next year. Book 2, much like the second book of a lot of trilogies, doesn't stand alone like the first book does. It segues pretty directly into book 3 so if they don't make the third film it will be very annoying.

I can't believe I've only been to the cinema once this year, to see Les Miserables (which I did rather love, I have to say). I don't know why that is. I really do need to keep more of an eye on what's being released.
I rather fancy 'Oz, the Great and Powerful', and I know Hannii does too. It would be nice to see it together when I'm in New Zealand, but it doesn't seem all that likely that it'll still be on in a month, which is a shame. (According to the countdown on my phone, it's 30 days till I take off and 32 till I land in New Zealand, but that's not counting the fact that they'll be 11 hours ahead, so it's only really 31 days). Unsurprisingly, I'm both ridiculously excited and very nervous (we both are). I've booked hotels (3 nights in Palmerston North and then the rest of the time in Wellington. It's a long way to go to stay in one city, I know, but there's plenty to see there, and well, if things go according to plan, there should be return visits at some point in the future, so). Wellington looks really lovely and I'll be able to catch up with Karen, who lives just outside it in the gloriously named Lower Hutt, and whom I haven't seen since she left the UK in about 2002 or something.

As of Sunday 17th March, I'm officially an ex-smoker (or possibly a recovering smoker. I'm waiting for the time when I don't want a cigarette. It's a long time coming). Cutting down was being painfully slow and the original plan had been to stop dead at around the time of the Spring Equinox (a good time for new starts :)), so on the Sunday before I just bit the bullet. It's been haaaaaard! I've had 2 and a half cigarettes since, the last of which (on Tuesday) left me feeling violently sick for over half an hour, which is good really. It makes the chance of me having another less likely.
So! I should be able to stop boring you with my very dull quitting smoking log. Fingers crossed.

Last week was hard and busy and really tiring. For the first time in years probably I didn't get a chance to answer any LJ or DW posts at all. I must rectify that soon.

I found my old 2 disc CD single of Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine's 'Glam Rock Cops' a little while ago (from 1994, I think) and it has think rather fabulous cover of 'Lean on me I won't fall over' sung by The Family Cat. I've always rather loved it.

And while we're going back to the early 90s, here's Carter themselves. Sheriff Fatman. I'd forgotten how much I loved them.

And I think I've waffled on enough.
I hope you're all well :)
