Sometimes it seems as though the more I need to write on here the busier I get, and the longer it takes me to be able to actually do it! Last weekend was eventful in many ways, but before I get into it I wanted to say a great big THANKS! to all the people who have read and commented on my blog. My girlfriend kept the fact that she was transitioning hidden until the moment we met face to face (we met on the interwebs) because of the heartache she had suffered at the hands of previous partners who weren't supportive at all.
In the time that we've been together, I've watched as she's gone full time. Recently she got a job using her true name, not the name she was born with. I'm very proud of her, and admire her strength.
I don't know anything about therapy as our financial situation only allows for us getting her hormones on the net, but good luck to you and Anna on going the better route.

Now honestly-Heidy uses Estroven- yes the easy to find at Wal-Mart stuff.
Heidy is TERRIFIED of doctors- and finding a transgender-friendly therapist in our area is pretty tough.(We live in Rural KY) Affordable? not really(we're not financially in good shape)
I'm supportive of Heidy=she's supporting me in some things right now-

I don't know what the deal is in your state, but in the UK you have to have therapy sessions and psychiatric assessments before hormones are prescribed. Luckily, we have the National Health Service, and the mandatory counselling is free (though you have to wait months before seeing anyone)
If your doctor is following the Standards of Care (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standards_of_care_for_gender_identity_disorders)
then they'll require a letter of recommendation from a therapist/psychiatrist before they'll write a prescription.
It's a area a lot of doctors are touchy about, because messing with someone's hormones is a pretty big thing with irreversible effects! They'll want to know you're not going to change your mind and come back and sue them!
Of course, like isisxonxacid said, some people buy their hormones ( ... )
