Summary: This is the start of my Brooks and Dunn/Mallie tribute. The first one-shot is not Mallie lovin’ but I’m getting there. These are just little drabbles, not a complete story.

She looked so good movin’ ‘cross the dance floor
Better than the day she left me
Arm in arm with somebody new
Holdin’ hands and laughin’ like we used to
I got my best smile on, but it’s no disguise
It don’t hide the pain in these eyes

I did her so wrong, for so long
Turned my back on her love, now she’s long gone
I did my part, to break her heart
She walked out on me, and tore my world apart
She used to be mine
Oh, she used to be mine

It’s taken every bit of strength that I have
To keep a hurt look off of my face
I can’t keep from lookin’ back over my shoulder
At the lucky man takin’ my place
Oh, if it weren’t for my pride, I’d probably take off runnin’
Guess what I’m feelin’, is what I got comin’

I did her so wrong, for so long
Turned my back on her love, now she’s long gone
I did my part, to break her heart
She walked out on me, and tore my world apart
She used to be mine
Oh, she used to be mine

They say that turnabout is fair play. They say that you don’t know what you got until it’s gone. They say if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one your with. Right now, Mark wished those people would just shut the fuck up already. The single malt scotch in his hand was doing nothing to soften the features in his face. He sits at the table and drowns out the noise that is coming from his friends and colleagues. Instead he allows his eyes to stay rooted to the woman with the long dark hair and the to-do-for curves. He scowls as her hips move and he nearly breaks his glass when he sees another man’s hands on them.

Arizona and Callie tried to make their relationship work after the Seattle Grace Massacre, but once everything died down, old problems surfaced and they finally said goodbye to what they had. At first Lexie had picked Alex, ignoring his cries for Izzie. She said that she loved him, she deserved the chance at a little bit of happiness. She wanted to be with a man that wasn’t going to have any wayward kids showing up at their doorstep.

He quickly found himself in the arms of his best friend. They mourned with a bottle of tequila and a half of dozen condoms. Mark watched Callie sleeping and felt an interesting tug at his heartstrings. It was a feeling that he thought he buried long ago. The idea that he and Callie could be more than friends. He started thinking about what their future would be like and it made him smile.

Callie was rightfully apprehensive when he confessed his feelings to her. She told him that they were both hurting and it just seemed natural to latch on to one another. He told her that maybe the reason why it never worked with anyone else was because it was supposed to work with them. It took nearly a month before Callie finally came to his apartment, drenched with rain and tears. She told him never to hurt her and he promised it wouldn’t happen.

Two months of bliss. Two months of being loved by his best friend, both in and out of the bedroom. He was happy, blissfully so. He started to think maybe it was too much. Maybe he didn’t deserve Callie’s love. He tried to push the thoughts in the back of his head until one day, he was taking a nap in the on-call room and Lexie entered and locked the door. Her blonde head was shaking as she tearfully explained that she wanted him back, that she needed him. He tried to fight her off; he told her that he was happy with Callie. It didn’t stop Lexie from kissing him and after awhile, it didn’t stop him from removing her clothes.

It took less than an hour for the entire surgical floor to find out what had transpired between the former lovers. Apparently, Lexie couldn’t wait to tell everyone within ear shot that Mark and her were back together. Damn shame, no one told Callie. He searched the hospital looking for her. He finally found her locked in the basement that used to be her home. He waited for the tears and the anger and was shocked when neither came. Instead Callie looked at him with blank eyes and only uttered one sentence.

“Congratulations, you were the one that broke me.”

Those were the last 8 words that she ever spoke to him. The break-up caused everyone to take sides. It even caused Meredith and Cristina to stop speaking for awhile when Cristina walked down the hall with a made shirt that said “Team Callie”. Addison even flew into town to be with her best friend and to ream Mark out so hard, he felt like a 5 year old afterwards.

He couldn’t explain why he cheated on the most amazing woman he had ever met. He wanted to blame it on his self loathing but even he knew that was a bunch of bullshit. The truth was he fucked up. There was no other way to put it. As he looked over at Lexie and her baby bump, he truly knew that she had been the biggest mistake of his life, and Mark knew all about mistakes.

The sound of her laughter brought his attention back to her. Her cheeks were flushed and her smile was genuine. She still lived across the hall and she still worked at the hospital, but she ignored him completely and she finally found love. True, unwavering love with a man who had been hurt just as badly as she had. Mark growled when she placed a kiss on the lips of the man that in a few short weeks would be her husband. His knuckles turned white as the man placed his jacket on her body and kissed her temple. She looked down to fix her shirt and when she looked up, her eyes met Mark’s for the briefest of seconds. Mark held his breath and only exhaled when she quickly looked back down. Mark followed her with his eyes until she reached the door and as if pouring more salt on his wound, she grabbed the back of Alex Karev’s head and placed a kiss on his mouth for everyone to see.
