The DSO performance this past Saturday was very, very good. They had a featured guest pianist, Marc-Andre Hamelin, in to play Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2. I was unfamiliar with both the piece and the perfomer, but I immediately understood why this guy is a big deal.
This is his recently released recording of the same piece with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. I'm looking forward to receiving it.
The work they've done on orchestra hall is top notch, both the remodelling to the main building and the "addition" of the Max Fisher Music Center now adjoining it. To top it off, despite the first game of the World Series and a Vince Gill (I think) concert also taking place downtown, traffic was surprisingly light.
