On the kindess of fandoms, words, writers, and the fear of being heard

Maybe I should be doing some proper writing right now, but instead I’m going to say this:

Very, very occasionally I will receive a comment (eloquent, beautiful, beyond any realm of praise I ever expected to receive or endeavored to deserve) and I find myself afraid to respond, because how could I ever live up to such standards? I usually say ( Read more... )

As a writer and a reader, I totally agree with this. Don't hesitate or back away from leaving a comment because you worry that it's just one more meaningless addition; don't hesitate to share how it made you feel. Those comments are what feel the best and mean the most to writers.

Every reader should totally read this post, because it is awesome. And I have to second the last bit. Every time a writer writes something, we put our hearts into it, even if it's "only" fanfic. We like people to feedback, we like to know that someone else saw it and liked it. It makes the hard work possible, and it makes it worthwhile if just one person likes it.
