So.....
Somehow the Phillies just created one of the greatest, on paper at this point, starting rotations in MLB history. I shan't
belabor the point here; spring training is a few months off yet. But this is just sick, in a good way.
The
locals have jumped on this faster than Vick made us forget,....um, damn.
Just think about it this way, the Phils #4
starter (Nice to know the coach follows the Phightins, too) is the only one with a ring, won as the MVP in 2008. Cole is the youngest of the four, and possibly pitched the best last year; his record reflects a baffling lack of run support similar to Roy2's experience in Houston before the deadline trade. But Cole showed an incredible amount of maturity this past season by continuing to pitch steadily through the petrified forest.
I am interested to see how well the ladies get along. The news is that Kristen had an
important role in Cliff Phifer (If his parents didn't telegraph this trade...) deciding to come back to Philly. At the same time, when Roy1 got traded here last winter, it was
clear (I love it; we) that Brandy played a big part of our getting another Cy Young pitcher. But I am curious how Kristen will take Brandy's
chutzpah concerning Cliff's keeping Roy's jersey warm.
I am really impressed to see the relationship that Roy and Brandy have, and seeing the one that Cliff and Kristen enjoy is likewise rather pleasing. The somewhat condescending tone of the reporting on these stories is irksome, but I suppose expected. Somehow I feel as though people are confused by the fact that such competitors might defer to their wives. I rather see edge on the field being nurtured by such marriages.
On an utter tangent, let me remind people that Roy2 and Cliff are both country boys, and the hunting and fishing in PA and NJ are pretty darn good.
Welcome back, Cliff.
Merry Cliffmas everyone!!!
