trying to figure out what all to cook for thanksgiving this year. i'm honestly kind of excited!!! last year i did some breads, which was fun as heck, but this year (despite having alienated the SHIT out of myself with a bunch of people) i'm goin' whole hog and cooking EVERY LAST COURSE. fuck yeah!
i'm thinking corn bread and mashed potatoes are definite must-haves. i'll need to scale down the recipes a little bit on each, but whatever, i'm stoked. gotta make sure i have all the baking things needed for cornbread from scratch! making sure my pantry is well and proper stocked BEFORE the big day is the biggest hurdle to hop here. i don't really think i need any other sides or whatever, since it's gonna be thanksgiving on a miniature scale ...
it's the main course i'm a bit hung up on, but i think probably i'll do a variation on this
Creamy Pumpkin Penne with Crispy Sage and Toasted Pecans. I say variation just because I'm not a huge fan of penne, and will probably end up using rotini instead. I just get picky about my pasta shapes, okay! I need to see what all Racconto has on that front, anyhow - I've been digging their 8-grain pasta of late (not in the least because, mysteriously enough, the spaghetti version is the same price as 'normal' pasta. I will not complain! and, shit, for Thanksgiving I'll pay an extra dollar for some rotini).
I don't know if I'll really need a dessert on top of all that! Maybe earlier in the week I could bake some muffins...? Doing those on the same day as Thanksgiving proper seems like a bit much on the effort scale, and we all know how I feel about effort. Haha.
The weekend before Thanksgiving I'm having dinner at a friend's, so I need to figure out what to make for that, too. Maybe a test run of the pasta in pumpkin-cream sauce? Maybe a pie? I always make pie ...
whatever, i'm stoked and planning ahead
