Interesting times abound. . .

So, something was posted to the GSA listserve the other day. Basically, the owner of Jason's Deli in collegetown called someone a faggot and told him to "use some KY next time." Someone who was there posted the incident, saying he hoped we wouldn't shop there anymore. And personally, I plan to avoid them, and encourage all of you to do the same. Some people emailed back saying that the poster should go to the police or to Cornell about this, and he posted again saying that he wasn't planning on doing that, just on making people aware. Someone else posted proposing a boycott or a protest. Fair enough. Then, and this is where it gets interesting, someone posted and said that the answer to this wasn't a protest but "getting involved." One of the organizations he proposed "getting involved" in was the International Socialist organization. Then someone posts saying how oppressive the USSR was to queer people. Then other people post, and it turns into a huge email battle between socialists ("All these prejudices spring from captialism!") and libertarians ("All these prejudices spring from the government!") There were twelve emails I got on the subject, with evidence of personal emails going back and forth and being reposted. John Connelly had to post twice to get everyone to stop, reminding us that the listserve is really to let people know about events. I have a feeling the issue hasn't died, though. . .
