Yuletide cheer

Oh I should've stayed up; or gotten up earlier, if I'd realised how soon the archive would be open. :)

But I finally got a Billy Elliot story! And it's fantastic and all I've ever wanted for that fandom *sighs happily*

And At The Same Time Something Makes You Whole

Pinching the summary, because I really like it: It’s weird being home. And it’s weirder still to think that home went on without him while he was gone.

This is Billy six years on, going back and forth between London and Durham now, and seeing how things have changed, things have stayed the same. I loved the little glimpse of Debbie grown up, rolled up in how the North is home but it's also a place that's unfamiliar now. I loved the background in London - I wanted to know more about his relationship with that kid who he punched in the movie, and it's done really nicely here, with hints of what life would be like at ballet school.

But most of all I love the way the writer brings Michael and Billy back together again - slowly, gently, and it feels right for the gap they've been apart. It all comes to this sweet, lovely climax and then there's an awesome, quiet ending that feels perfect (I'm being vague because I don't want to spoil it - go and read it for yourself!).

I am going to be reading this over and over, I just know it!

And now I have to run, so I can't read all the fic I want but there's Tintin to be seen (which is totally appropriate and related, I just realised - maybe I should come home and rewatch Billy Elliot just to make it a total Jamie Bell day?).

also, my recipient liked my story a lot, yay!! Yuletide cheer all round! :D
