Yay! A return to a favourite meme: 7 songs I've been listening to lately

Fun. - Walking the Dog *

Fun. sounds like a natural progression from The Format, which makes sense since it's Nate Ruess' new project. There's the same bombastic jaunty pop, but there's possibly even more going on (instrumentation, arrangements, everything) at all times, and a lot of referencing of other musical genres. I enjoy it, but the album can be a bit much as a whole.

Sam Means - Yeah Yeah

Whereas Sam Means, the other half of The Format, has gone for a softer, folkier approach in his new music (for an upcoming indie film). It's a pretty, light pop song.

Monsters of Folk - Ahead of the Curve (m4a)

More indie-folk. The new Monsters of Folk album is good - it's not entirely cohesive because I can't help myself from picking out individual songs as being more 'Bright Eyes' than 'M.Ward' and so on - but musically there are some great songs on it. This one could fit right into the rest of Conor Oberst's solo oevre.

littlerhymes has been sending me links all week of adorable and funny interviews they've been doing because she is awesome. :)

British India - Vanilla

Haven't been paying much attention to them for a while, but with this new song I realise I still <3 their skinny tiny adorable Australian alternative rocker selves. This song is a bit of a slow burner, it creeps up on you with what a rocking good song it is.

Philadelphia Grand Jury - The Good News

Another new Aussie pop-rock song, immensely catchy with great fuzzy guitars and a rhythmic keyboard line that should drive me mad but really just makes me dance whenever this comes on.

The Academy Is... - In the Rearview (m4a)

Yeah, as if I haven't been listening to the new EP on repeat like the happy fangirl that I am. I looooooove this track, it was the instant standout for me (though I love Sputter only a teensy bit less, and the rest of the EP follows close behind). It's a big sounding pop-rock song with a great melody and just the right amount of repressed anger and snarl.

Tegan and Sara - Hell

It's new, it's T&S, and I haven't quite worked out how I feel about it yet. Cue another 3948 listens. :)

* Surely every second fangirl in Panic fandom went and found the Fun. album last week after Spencer and Brendon kept talking it up, and I can't admit to being any different.
