Changed my mind (again)

Instead of being a journalist, I've decided to be an opera singer. Or at least major in voice, not journalism.

It would be backbreaking work like you have no idea, especially because I'd start all my requirements too late. I'd have to apply for fall 2008 because preparing three classical pieces and brushing up on sightreading can't be done in three weeks. More like three months. So I'd prepare over the summer. I'm trying for a non-major voice class next semester, just to see what it's like.

In the meantime, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8gpNbEy9iA

One of my favorite Carmens. Agnes Baltsa is really great in both singing and acting the part. I'm not too fond of Maria Callas's Carmen, if only because she's closer to being a lyric soprano and that's a mezzo-soprano part. Her voice just isn't dramatic and deep enough for the part. It's beautiful and she's an amazing singer (I love her Tosca, for example), but I don't like her 'Habanera'. In case you don't know, I'm a mezzo-soprano, although I could probably pull off contralto quite well. I've tried singing soprano parts and I've nearly killed my voice.

If I decide to keep singing, I suppose I'll have to stop smoking hookah. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted.

Back to reading American Gods; if you haven't read that yet, incidentally, you seriously need to.
