You know how the airlines tell you that cell phones must be turned off
during the flight, claiming they interfere with "aircraft navigation"? I
call BULLSHIT on this ever since I heard that people use cell phones without
restriction on private jets.
And now here is the proof. It is NOT about navigational interference. It is
about PROFIT. Just the same as the reason movie theatres don't let you bring
in your own popcorn and pop.
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2006/08/31/ryanair-cellphone.html My readers will know that I have no problem with companies making profits,
but I just wish they wouldn't hide behind vague fears of safety.
I predict that in Canada, WestJet will just let it happen for free, while
Air Canada will "compete" by charging a "nominal" (i.e. $8 per minute) fee.
