July Prompt: Graveyard

Jul 13, 2008 01:10

It was an oddly cloudy day when Amon found himself in the Summer Lands, disguised as a beautiful young male, looking to barely be in his prime. A loin cloth was the only thing keeping the man from walking the halls of the Summer Court completely nude. As it was the fabric hugged to his body, leaving nothing to the imagination. This mattered not, however. The Fae did not hold to some sense of modesty, so he could have walked the halls completely nude, and none would have given him a second glance.

He rounded the corners of the old, seemingly festive castle, until he came to a small courtyard, decorated with only a single, flowering tree, and a small monument with the inscription of the name “Auberon” upon it. It was here that he’d intended to be at, as it was time to pay personal respects to a dear friend of his.

He bowed at the monument, best described as a headstone, before moving beyond it to the tree, where he knew Auberon rested. Amon moved his hand forward, and in a small burst of flame, a pale white gold braid materialized from his hand and coiled around the base of the tree.

“Auberon,” he spoke softly, as if the man were still alive. “There was so much you had done for me, both as king and companion. It…it grieves me that I wasn’t around to have been there for you when you died, and it wasn’t my hand that avenged your death. You are always in my heart and thoughts.” He sighed and looked down before speaking again.

“There was something that I’d kept to myself for nearly a century. I think you should know that I’d loved you.” Tears began falling from his eyes and down his face as he spoke. “I’m sorry that I did not have the courage to tell you this while you were living. Goodbye, my friend. May we meet again, in the next life.”
