My thoughts? Well....not the best WrestleMania WWE has done. But it wasn't entirely bad.
(Spoilers under link for anyone who hasn't gotten the results online yet:)
Seamus vs. Daniel Bryan........eighteen seconds? Really? To start out the show? They were trying to break a record for shortest match or something, but as the Miz would say.....really? LAME.
Kane vs. Randy Orton: one of the better matches of the night.
Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes: decent match. Big Show FINALLY got to wrestle at 'Mania in a non-gimmick match and got his "WrestleMania moment." Good for him.
Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny: I really didn't give a care about this match because I haven't been keeping up with Raw OR Smackdown much these days. No, Monday nights I'm either working late, or I'm home watching "RuPaul's Drag Race" or "Regular Show." Sorry, WWE. Drag queens and animated blue jays/raccoons/gumball machines are more interesting. And I always keep forgetting about Smackdown on Fridays anymore. I'm either working or participating in FFAF on
ohnotheydidnt).
Kelly Kelly and Maria Menounos vs. Beth Phoenix and Eve: Yawn. Didn't care about this one, either. Snooki at last year's WrestleMania held my interest more than this, and that's saying something.
Triple H vs. Undertaker in the Hell in a Cell (also known as the "We're Getting Too Old For This Shit" match): COME ON. Like Undertaker's going to break his WrestleMania winning streak on his 20th year. Quite frankly, if this truly was the "end of an era," both Triple H and Undertaker should announce their retirements after this match.
Here's my thoughts on this. I'm getting reeeeeally tired of WWE rehashing "epic" matches involving the Undertaker the next year. Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels four years ago was one of the best matches ever. Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels three years ago wasn't as good, even if it was Shawn's retirement match. Undertaker vs. Triple H last year was decent. This year, it just felt like beating a dead horse, even if it was Hell in a Cell.
FUNKASAURUS REX WAS BACK ON TV, OHMIGOD. One of the highlights of the night.
CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho: THE ONLY MATCH OF THE NIGHT THAT REALLY MATTERED. TRUE FACT. The only match that I cared to watch, and I was amazingly NOT DISAPPOINTED. Yeah, I'm a fan of both of them. Yeah, I was pulling a little more for Jericho to win because my love for Chris Jericho just edges out my fandom for CM Punk by a smidge. Yeah, CM Punk won. I ain't even mad. Best match of the night.
The Main Event--John Cena vs. The Rock (also known as the "WWE NEEDS RATINGS! WE BROUGHT THE ROCK BACK!" match):
*eyeroll*
Yeah. That's how I felt about that match. I get a little irritated when a non-title match is the main event of a major PPV, ESPECIALLY for WrestleMania. Basically, John Cena and the Rock are still overrated wrestlers full of catchphrases and glorified elbow drops. Basically, the Rock has movies to promote. Basically, more people like the Rock better. (It's a fact.) Basically, more people want the Rock back in the ring and not on their movie screens. Basically, people are getting tired of John Cena's schtick and he needs to turn heel.
The Rock won. I was honestly surprised. WWE was hyping this up as the "destiny" match and I thought they'd let Cena have it because he has more to prove than the Rock. Nevertheless, I was not impressed with this match.
I would've been more entertained if oh....say, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin interrupted the match, took 'em both out with the Stunner, got on the mic and said, "APRIL FOOLS!!!" As a matter of fact, I was HOPING for it. Nope.
I seriously hope Extreme Rules is better when we go on April 29th.
