Phase Two

Tomorrow begins Phase Two of the Berman Apartment Swap. Phase One entailed moving my aunt into a new apartment and moving me into the Bayside apartment previously occupied by her, and yet to be occupied by my sister and her family. For the past seven months I've been anxiously awaiting Phase Two, which we approached as a car towards the Rocky Mountains, knowing you must be getting closer because you are driving towards them, and yet seeing no noticeable change in their proximity. We received the news that the co-op board approved the construction a week ago today, and two days later I boarded a plane to Atlanta (unrelated). Monday, I arrived home to a very different-looking apartment (stuff moved all around and carpets gone), and the news that I'd need to be out of here by Wednesday (tomorrow, or you might say today) so construction could begin in earnest.

Tonight I had dinner with my younger sister who was visiting from Colorado (not the one who is eventually moving into the Bayside apartment), and she helped me pack up my kittens and drove them two my parents' house where they will live in the garage until a better opportunity presents itself, or until I can move back into Bayside, or better yet, Brooklyn (the ultimate destination). I said goodbye to her and to my kittens and I am now alone with the seemingly insurmountable task of packing everything I will need for the next three-or-so weeks, and my thoughts. I also need to collect everything of mine I do not want covered in a layer of dust and dirt and move it into one of the closets. Ideally, I would have done that last night when I arrived home from the airport at 8:30 and had a whole night to devote to the task, but I watched The Good Wife and pet my kitties instead. Tonight there are no kitties, but there is also precious little time.

My good friends Lindsay and Leslie are putting me up in their guest room for the vague period of time I'm calling Phase Two, which is exceedingly gracious of them. Lindsay, Penny, and I reunited again! I'd better stop typing and start packing.
