So I had one of my "oh fuck what am I going to do with a pointless BA in Psychology" freak out moments today. But, instead of turning the other cheek I actually looked up some stuff. I went into my online search thinking that all I was going to get was a BA degree. It's not that I wouldn't love to continue past an undergrad degree but rather I'm ( Read more... )

can you tell me what website you found some of the psych jobs at? Or how you searched for them?

Also, a week or so ago I was messing with some numbers and came to a fun conclusion. It actually kinda felt really weird.

$8/hr * full time = 16,640 per year
$14/hr * full time = 29,120 per year

Avg starting salary for psych majors = approx. 30,000

Now I know there will probably be more benefits and quicker raises for the psych major, but if you were working full time at alfy's you would make more annual income. Its weird to think that I could find a job for 14 an hour and be making as much as I will when I graduate.

But yah, I wanna talk with you about some of those jobs

This is the website that showed the list of jobs:

http://www.psywww.com/careers/entry.htm

There's a lot of good info on Western's website on the psych department page. (http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~psych/)

Yeah, I think it's funny too that one can make just as much delivering pizzas as one could at an entry level job that requires a 4-year degree. The difference though, like you said, is the opportunity to go up in the rankings. I realized that landing a good job that pays well is only partly due to ability and mostly due to how much and how quickly you can fit a certain mold of a company's layout.

My ultimate goal is to become a clinical psychologist though. Then I'll be able to talk to schizophrenics.
